This shop, of course, takes it’s name of course from and old Smiths tune. Mozzer grew up within a short cycle ride of Stretford Mall where this shop is located, and apparently the song references a fountain – stocked with live fish – that once graced the mall in the 1970s. Stretford Mall (formely Stretford Arndale) is a pretty grim bit of 1970s town planning which I have to say I’ve never set foot in before as I’m not a fan of shopping malls generally. It is now far too big for the town it was built to serve but fortunately there has been some effort made to help some small independent retailers to fill some of it’s spare space and so tucked away in a back corner you’ll find this great little record shop- chock full of goodies awaiting your attention. There’s loads of stock to look through, all kinds of Classic Rock, Psych, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Indie and most bases covered on LP, 12″, 7″ and CD. There are a few carefully picked reissues as well.
Nigel is a friendly and knowledgeable fella and has a regular turnover of new stuff so this is one of those places you’ll want to make a regular haunt. There is a turntable in store if you want to check the playability of anything you’ve found which we do wish all 2nd hand shops would offer. Be sure to follow the shop on Facebook too as it’s regularly updated with the latest finds.
