COVID19: HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL RECORD SHOP
We set Record Shop City up back in 2009 when music retail was in rapid decline. We wanted to shout about what we felt was a strong and defiant Record Shop scene in Manchester and beyond, and defeat the naysayers who insisted on talking it down. It’s been wonderful to watch music retail be resilient and come back with a vengeance. 2020 has brought a colossal, global challenge for us all to deal with, and it goes without saying this will be tough for retailers who sell ‘luxury goods’ (albeit I know some of us would go without bog roll and dried pasta for certain Records).
You can support your local bricks & mortar shops by STAYING IN TOUCH and checking what they’re offering online. If you’re on lockdown, time to grab yourself that 20 CD Glam Rock box set you’ve always fancied, fill in the gaps in your Henry Cow collection, rediscover UK Garage or finally get your head around Trout Mask Replica.
For now, we’re saying, STAY TUNED AND SHOP LOCAL ONLINE! Visit your local shops websites & buy direct rather than browsing on Amazon. We’ve provided a list of local shops online stores and contact details – so you can do some virtual crate-digging around the North West from isolation! Not everyone sells online though, and it may become tougher to ship (what some would consider) “non-essential” items around- however it will really help too if you follow your favourite shops on social media, or sign up for mailing lists so they can keep in touch and tell you how you can continue to support. We’ll add more info as we get it. Contact Us if we’ve missed something. See you on the other side!
