Sells: | Boutique selection of Vinyl and CDs plus Fabulous Vintage things from the 20th Century and beyond |
This is a new shop in the South Manchester bohemian capital that is Chorlton. Although extensively dealing in fabulous vintage things from the 20th Century and beyond, Goff and Jenny’s tastes include a great love of the vinyl and this place is a treasure trove for the purest cuts of classic original Psychedelia, Garage, and Folk as well as Soul, Jazz, Electro and Disco gems. The focus here is on quality rather than quantity and the shop has a fantastic small selection of stone cold killer 7″s and LPs. The quality is always great with every tune passing the sight and play test and being presented with a nice description and clear plastic sleeve. My recent purchases here include a wild 7″ from French proggers Triangle and the Psych Northern classic “Autumn of Your Smile”.
The shop currently has a couple of vinyl racks on the back wall as well as a box or two full of albums and most notably a fantastic Fisher-Price style listening turntable; worth the price of admission alone.
Aside from the vinyl, Wowie Zowie also has a great selection of framed concert posters and old adverts from the days of NME, Sounds and Record Mirror. It’s fair to say that this place is a real labour of love and a joy to browse in. Goff is a stalwart of the Manchester record shop scene and a true crate-digger, indeed he may well have extra fingers such are the legend of his finds. Always friendly and ready to share recent discoveries and obscure nuggets this is the kind of place every City suburb should have but so few do.
A great addition to the Manchester record shop scene and one that I know will only grow its vinyl output and always place the love of the grooves first and foremost. It’s only a 5 minute walk from King Bee so it really would be a crime to not step inside the world of Wowie Zowie.
